Review: Divergent

I know that most people first read a book and then watch a movie, but for some reason I always do it the other way around. I watched Divergent on Netflix a couple of months ago and I loved the movie (I mean, Theo James?!). So I decided to give the books by Veronica Roth a try.

Synopsis
One choice can transform you…

Beatrice Prior (Tris) lives in a faction system society in Chicago. Each faction has a different meaning: Candor (honest), Abnegation (selfless), Dauntless (brave), Amity (peaceful) and Erudite (intelligent). All sixteen-year-olds have to choose their own faction every year. When Tris turns sixteen, it’s her time to decide in which faction she wants to live. She has to choose between staying with her family in the faction where she was born and raised, or following her heart and passion in another faction.

Tris has to keep a big secret. She is Divergent, and that is something nobody can know. And if that isn’t hard enough for a sixteen-year-old, Tris meets someone very special in the faction that she chooses.

Divergent is a-ma-zing. I want to be Tris, I want to live in Chicago and be as badass as she is. I love to read stories with a strong female lead (I still need to read The Hunger Games, though) but Tris really stood out for me. She is brave, but not fearless, which makes her realistic. She is scared, sad, or lonely sometimes, but the choices she makes, gosh I was so jealous. I wonder what I would have done if I was her.

Anyway, the storyline is great. From the very first page in Divergent, I was addicted. It literally felt like I read this book in one breath. If you love to read Young Adult books with tension, action and romance, you should definitely read Divergent.
